KurzfilmProgramm: Zwischenräume – Psychische Entwürfe

Die Filme dieses Programms betreten private Räume, persönliche und unpersönliche, aber immer mit einer psychischen Dimension. Mal ist dies ein metaphorisch-klaustrophobischer Zustand, mal im wörtlichen Sinne eine Gefängniszelle, aus der heraus eine tagträumerische Flucht unternommen wird. Mal sind es die höchst privaten Wohnungen und Arbeitsräume der Filmemacher selbst, die oberflächlich mit der Kamera gescant werden, aber doch tiefer blicken lassen. Und mal ist es der unpersönliche, transitorische Raum eines Hotelzimmers, aus dem heraus -bei geöffnetem Fenster- ein realistischer Blick auf Fremdes und Fernes gelingt. – Alle Filme öffnen Zwischenräume und Einblicke in seelische Befindlichkeiten. Jean Genet - Un chant d'amour

Un Chant d'Amour is French writer Jean Genet's only film, which he directed in 1950. Because of its explicit (though artistically presented) homosexual content, the 26-minute movie was long banned and was also disowned by Genet later in his life.
The plot is set in a French prison, where a prison guard takes voyeuristic pleasure in observing the prisoners perform masturbatory sexual acts. In two adjacent cells, there are an older Algerian-looking man and a handsome convict in his twenties. The older man is in love with the younger one, rubbing himself against the wall and sharing his cigarette smoke with his beloved through a straw.
The prison guard, apparently jealous of the prisoner's relationship, enters the older convict's cell, beats him, and makes him suck on his gun in an unmistakably sexual fashion. But the inmate drifts off into a fantasy where he and his object of desire roam the countryside. In the final scene it becomes clear that the guard's power is no match for the intensity of attraction between the prisoners, even though their relationship is not consummated.
Genet does not use sound in his film, forcing the viewer to completely focus on closeups of faces, armpits, and semi-erect penises. Originally produced as a porn movie of sorts, the film with its highly sexualized atmosphere has later been recognized as a formative factor for works such as the films by Andy Warhol. Eine kleine Weltmaschine in einem Würfel von zwei-meter-zwanzig Kantenlänge. Die Schöpfungsgeschichte in Auszügen: Die Erschaffung des Lichts, der Wolken, der Vögel, der Flugzeuge, der Kuh und der Planeten und Monde. Eine Liebesgeschichte mit deprimierendem Ausgang in drei Akten. Es herrscht permanente Schlaflosigkeit. Mit dem Schlüpfen des Flugsauriers aus Ignatzens Frühstücksei beginnt die Geschichte der Vögel, mit dem Streit entstehen die Wolken, das Meer und die Schiffe. Was sie erschaffen, vermehrt sich. Nichts geht verloren. Als sie sich im Streit trennen, ist die Welt schon überfüllt. Die beiden treffen sich im Weltraum wieder. Balduin steigt auf das Dach seines Würfels und versucht, mit seinem Megaphon Kontakt zu Ignatz aufzunehmen, aber die Luft ist zu dünn, um den Schall zu tragen. Sie treiben wieder auseinander. Bernhard Marsch - WOHNHAFT

Der Filmemacher führt durch seine eigene kleine Wohnung, die vollgestopft ist mit Büchern, Platten, Zeitungen, Erinnerungen und wie eine grandiose Raum-Installation wirkt. Während die Kamera ethnografisch-forschend durch dieses Labyrinth des Sammelns gleitet, hört man aus dem Off, wie sich Marsch und sein Idol Werner Enke über Räume, das Räumen und allerlei Ramsch unterhalten.

This film aims to capture a sense of the life of children living on the street in Gondar by witnessing the interaction between two children and the film-maker. Although it is about the children's life on the streets, the entire film was shot in the film-maker's room in the Ethiopia Hotel. This limited space allows the film to focus on communication between subjects and film-maker and to reveal some of the ideas that enable them to endure and survive on the streets. This film is more a sensitive testimony than a scientific documentary. Through its hybrid approach, the film-maker aims to explore new trends in visual anthropology touching upon intimacy and subjectivity. (www.itsushikawase.com)
